Santiago - Calama - San Pedro de Atacama - Atacama Desert Tours - Bariloche - Villa La Angostura
Arrival in Santiago de Chile, reception and transfer to the 5* De Luxe Ritz Carlton Hotel. Accommodation in a deluxe room.
Day 2: SANTIAGOAfter breakfast, a half day city tour of Santiago including a visit to the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino. This museum offers a thorough overview of 4500 years of pre-Columbian civilization throughout Central and South America. At the Main Square (Plaza de Armas) view the beautiful Cathedral, Post Office and National Museum. Continue along the main avenue called "Alameda" to admire the San Francisco Church and the National Library. You shall also see the Mercado Central which is one of Santiago’s most colourful markets. A visit to Cerro Santa Lucia, where Santiago was founded in 1541 Lunch at Pinpilinpausha, one of the finest restaurants in Chile. In the afternoon, a visit via the Maipo Canyon and up to Las Vertientes, a popular resort at the foothills of the Andes, with a view of the winding Maipo River. We continue towards Pirque, a picturesque village and the Concha y Toro winery, one of the largest exporters of fine wines in Chile. Founded in 1883 by the Marquis of Casa Concha, he appointed French oenologist M. de Labouchere to bring the finest stock vine from France and to have it planted in the Maipo River Valley. Since then, Concha y Toro has been the leader adopting new techniques. The tour will end with some wine tasting before returning to Santiago.
Day 3: SANTIAGO - CALAMA - SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMAAfter breakfast, private transfer to the airport for the flight to Calama. Arrival and transfer to the deluxe Hotel de Larache set in the middle of the Atacama Desert. Your room is complete with Jacuzzi, sitting room and fabulous views of the Atacama Desert. This will be your accommodation for four nights offering an incomparable stay whilst you explore with expert guides the incredible terrain of the Atacama Desert. All meals and an open bar are included in your stay. The facilities of the hotel include a sauna, massage, riding stables, and restaurant offering superb cuisine and an extensive Chilean wine list.
Day 4 - 6: ATACAMA DESERT TOURSEach day, you may choose from between a wide variety of adventures depending upon guest preference, duration and degree of difficulty. Examples of tours include various treks on foot around the Atacama area to view volcanoes, geo thermal springs and geysers, various Atacama cultural sites, mountain and volcano ascents, cycling tours and horse riding tours. San Pedro de Atacama was the cradle of the Atacama Culture during the pre-Columbian period. There are many interesting sites to visit such as the Archaeological Museum, Padre Le Paige where you will witness an exhibition showing the evolution of Atacamanian life over the last 11,000 years.
Day 7: SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA - CALAMA - SANTIAGOAfter breakfast, we will visit return to Calama for your transfer to the airport and your return flight to Santiago. Reception and transfer to your hotel, the Ritz Carlton.
Day 8: SANTIAGO - BARILOCHEAfter breakfast, transfer to airport for the flight to Bariloche. Transfer to your hotel, the 5* Llao Llao Hotel & Resort, a member of the "Leading Hotels of the world group" for two nights accommodation. Located on a secluded hill between lakes Nahuel Huapi and Moreno, the resort offers all amenties including an 18 hole golf course, fishing and hunting facilities.
Day 9: BARILOCHEFree day in Bariloche, the ski capital of Argentina. Choose from fishing, trekking, tennis, walking, archery or perhaps even condor watching. The hotel boasts a sauna, and an indoor heated swimming pool; all with a wonderful vista of the lake and surrounding woodlands. Take a cable car ride for tremendous views of the area or for the more adventurous, perhaps some mountain biking.
Day 10: BARILOCHE - VILLA LA ANGOSTURA - PUERTO MONTTAfter breakfast, we shall take a fabulous scenic route back to Chile driving around the beautiful Nahuel Huapi Lake and heading towards the delightful town of Villa La Angostura. Along the journey we shall pass other lakes including the Espejo or Mirror Lake which is one of the 7 lakes of the famous 7 Lakes route of Argentina. We cross the Argentinean - Chilean border over the Andes pass and head south down to Puerto Montt. Transfer to your hotel and accommodation in a junior suite at the Gran Pacifico Hotel.
Day 11: PUERTO MONTT - PUNTA ARENAS - TORRES DE PAINEAfter breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Punta Arenas. Reception and transfer by private minivan to the Super Exclusive Explora resort in the heart of Torres Del Paine, Chilean Patagonia. Accommodation for four nights. Located on the shores of LakePehoe, this deluxe hotel is situated in an indescribably beautiful location and combines top class accommodation with a wide range of tours to allow for a deeper appreciation of the beautiful Torres del Paine National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1978).
Day 12 - Day 14: TORRES DE PAINEEach day, you may choose from 5 different adventures out of a total of 21, depending upon weather conditions, preference, duration and degree of difficulty. Examples of tours include various treks on foot around the National Park to numerous lakes, glaciers and miradors, horse riding trips, trips by boat and trips by car. All explorations are with professional, bilingual guides. Exquisite gourmet meals with fine Chilean wine and an open bar is included for the entire stay at the hotel. The hotel also boasts an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, massage rooms and open-air Jacuzzis.
Day 15: TORRES DE PAINE - EL CALAFATEPrivate transfer by comfortable car to El Calafate in Argentina. El Calafate is the site of the incredible Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the most dramatic natural sites left on earth. Two night’s accommodation at the spectacularly located Los Notros Hosteria which offers incomparable views of the glacier. The Perito Moreno Glacier of Santa Cruz is a 60m (197ft) high river of rising, toppling and exploding ice, though it has not advanced for several years. Excursion to the incredible Perito Moreno Glacier, walking along footpaths and balconies to reach this incredible phenomenon.
Day 16: PERITO MORENO GLACIERAfter breakfast, opportunity to walk on the glacier or for a selection of other activities including other treks, 4x4 trips and boat trips to other glaciers in the area such as Upsala, Onelli and Spegazzini.
Day 17: EL CALAFATE - BUENOS AIRESTransfer to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires. Reception and transfer to the deluxe 5* Hotel Alvear Palace Hotel, a member of the "Leading Hotels of the world group" for two night's accommodation. Free day to wander around the city.
Day 18: BUENOS AIRESAfter breakfast, a private city tour of perhaps the most cosmopolitan metropolis in South America. Most of the population is of European descent and the city is reminiscent of Paris. It is situated on the Rio de la Plata, and as its name suggests, it is the city of good winds. The tour will include a visit to the Plaza de Mayo, the hub of the city centre and where many public buildings such as the Catedral Metropolitana can be found. At the east end, you will find the Casa Rosada presidential palace with the famous balcony from which Juan and Evita Peron greeted the masses. A visit will also be lade to the Teatro Colon, found at the intersection of Cirrito and Tucuman the world-class opera house that opened in 1908 with a presentation of Aida. It seats 2500 spectators and offers standing room for another 1000. There is also a museum featuring instruments, costumes and photographs of performers. You shall also visit La Boca, Buenos Aires' most colourful neighbourhood. San Telmo, just a few blocks south of Plaza de Mayo is the artist's quarter, what some believe to be Buenos Aires' most interesting feature. A final visit to Recoleta, a very fashionable area where you can visit the fine arts museum, called Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, and the city's gardens of Plaza Alvear and Plaza Francia. The latter hosts the largest crafts fair in the city every Sunday. Lunch at the La Bourgogne, the only Relais Gourmand in Argentina. The restaurant serves the finest French and international food in the city and according to Travel & Leisure magazine rated La Bourgogne the number one restaurant in South America, and Wine Spectator gave it the distinction of being one of the "Best Restaurants in the World for Wine Lovers." Return to your hotel. In the evening, dinner & tango Show in La Esquina Carlos Gardel, the foremost tango house in Buenos Aires.
Day 19: BUENOS AIRESAfter breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Iguazu. Arrival and transfer to the 5* Sheraton Iguazu hotel. Lunch and an opportunity for your first glimpse of the majestic falls. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 20: IGUAZU FALLS - ARGENTINA SIDEA visit to the fabulous UNESCO World Heritage Iguazu falls, the most voluminous falls in the world and more than three times the width of the Niagara falls. The Argentinean side of Iguazu allows for a close appreciation. Set in a subtropical rain forest reserve of over 180,000 hectares, Iguazu is home to jaguar, puma, caiman and over 400 species of bird. The tour will include the Aventura ride, an exhilarating boat ride on the Parana River, heading towards the Iguazu falls themselves. Return to your hotel.
Day 21: IGUAZU FALLS - BRAZIL SIDEToday you will cross the border into Brazil for a full day excursion to appreciate a wider view of the falls which lie on the three borders of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. Return to your hotel in Argentina. (Please note that all US citizens require a Brazilian visa for this excursion).
Day 22: IGUAZU - BUENOS AIRESAfter breakfast, transfer to the airport for the return flight to Buenos Aires and your return flight home.
